Smart Holograms is exploiting a technology that uses chemically engineered holograms to detect the presence of specific human disease analytes. The holograms require little or no instrumentation and will change their color when in contact with the target indicator. Their first product based on this technology is a novel glucose sensor for diabetes self-testing.

Facial surgery and forensic science are benefiting from a portable holography system called digital holography facial topometry that can capture the shape and texture of faces in an instant. The invention was developed by a team of  scientists at the Center for Advanced European Studies and Research (Caesar) in Bonn, Germany.
In this technique, 3D models of the skin surface of patients are created by ultra-fast holography and automatic scan matching of synchronously recorded holograms.

NTT Develops Stamp-Size 1GB Hologram MemoryÂ
Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp (NTT)Â has developed a prototype of a new high-capacity memory storage device, designed with a multi-layered waveguide structure and based on thin-film holography.
The company has produced a 100-layer postage stamp-sized media prototype with a 1GB memory capacity constructed from plastic material, and a small prototype drive for reading data”

Holographic optical tweezers use computer-generated holograms to create arbitrary three-dimensional configurations of single-beam optical traps useful for capturing, moving and transforming mesoscopic objects. Through a combination of beam-splitting, mode forming, and adaptive wavefront correction, holographic traps can exert precisely specified and characterized forces and torques on objects ranging in size from a few nanometers to hundreds of micrometers. Offering nanometer-scale spatial resolution and real-time reconfigurability, holographic optical traps provide unsurpassed access to the microscopic world and have found applications in fundamental research, manufacturing and materials processing.

Theoretical results about black holes suggest that the universe could be like a gigantic hologram.
An astonishing theory called the holographic principle holds that the universe is like a hologram: just as a trick of light allows a fully three-dimensional image to be recorded on a flat piece of film, our seemingly three-dimensional universe could be completely equivalent to alternative quantum fields and physical laws “painted” on a distant, vast surface.Â

Hyderabad, July 27: Anti-piracy initiatives in Andhra Pradesh the past two years, especially after the Anti-Piracy Cell was formed, have come in for praise from the Los Angeles-based Motion Picture Association (MPA).
The AP model was the subject of seminar on ‘Legal aspects related to film piracy - Implementation of piracy laws in A.P.’ organised by MPA together with the NALSAR University of Law here on Thursday.
M. Ratan, Additional Director-General of Police, said in the past two years, ever since the Anti-Piracy Cell was set in AP, 4,065 cases of violation of piracy laws were booked, 23 of which were convictions.
P. Keshava Reddy, a former police officer and now Chief Coordinator, Anti-Piracy Cell at the AP Film Chamber of Commerce, said improving awareness among film-makers, law enforcement agencies and the general public was a continuous task for them.Â

Holographic Technologies for Military Applications make a lot of sense really, especially if you consider the potential for data visualization and table top holographic displays of the Net-Centric Battlespace in 4D.
Holograms are a valuable tool on the battlefield itself also, consider Holographic Decoys and Deception Applications - deception tactics are extremely important in wartime. Better yet just the fact that you have these technologies makes the enemy second guess you and hesitate and the way that wars are fought now at light speed, that is an extreme advantage.
Many new soldiers are not quite prepared for the reality of war and the gruesome sights they will see, which often leave psychological and emotional scares. With Holographic Imaging the soldier can be toughened up prior to battle using hologram Virtual Reality Training and Mind Conditioning equipment.

In UK & USA, Warner Brothers use holographic movieposters to promote the release of a Harry Potter Film series. WB source saild “we have been launching films into the UK for WB now for 4 years, these include; the Matrix and Harry Potter series, Troy, Batman, Superman Returns and many others. The holograms, situated in the foyers of major cinemas throughout the UK and Ireland, are used to stimulate interest in films ahead of their release. The Movipostersâ„¢ are so popular that many regular cinmeagers will seek out the launch of each new Moviposterâ„¢. The Movipostersâ„¢ are also used at selected film premieres.

Sony has filed a patent on hologram recording medium, hologram recording/reconstructing apparatus, and hologram recording/reconstructing method
Abstract
A hologram recording medium comprises a hologram recording layer for recording a hologram, and a wedge substrate for varying the propagating direction of a reference light and an object light incident upon the hologram recording medium. By rotating the hologram recording medium comprising the hologram recording layer and the wedge substrate, the propagating direction of the reference light and the object light are varied, whereby angle multiplex recording of holograms can be realized with ease.Â
