Already, the accused are believed to have circulated about Rs 17 lakh in the city. The Rs 500 and 1,000 denomination notes were printed in Pakistan and were sent in containers by ship via Dubai to Mumbai.
Disclosing details at a press conference on Saturday, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Balwinder Singh said the entire gang comprised at least 13 persons, including three from Pakistan. ‘‘The first consignment amounting to Rs 19 lakh in bogus currency arrived in the city in April, the second of Rs 55 lakh shortly thereafter. The third consignment reached the city a few days ago,’’ Singh added. The UAE national, Alkaz Khamis, was operating from Dubai through a front company, West India Import-Export.
